Thank you!

From Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain.

On behalf of all the writers, the cast and the crew of Skins we’d like to thank everyone who watched and commented and rated and entered competitions; for making Series 3 our most successful ever. We’ve had an amazing year making the show. Sometimes we worked so hard we weren’t sure if we were still alive. Hope it was worth it, and anyway, it was so much fun that it probably shouldn’t be allowed.

We want you to know that all your comments and thoughts mean everything to us. We read them all and think carefully about what has been said; try not to sulk when you say bad stuff, and are happy if we’ve managed to surprise you or make you think about things in a different way.

A little respect to the new cast: We hope you’ll agree that they’re totally brave to bring out new characters boldly when so many of us had loved the first cast. So much some amazing stuff. Some of them had never acted before and they had a hard act to follow. They relied on pure talent and gave everything they had to make you believe in them as characters you could love, hate or both at the same time. Expect fireworks next year.

So the script team are hard at work trying to write stories for series 4 that will mean something to you. All we can say, is that things will happen that you’re not expecting. Some of it will be stupid, some of it will be funny, but in there, we’ll be trying to go right to the heart of things that matter.

Stand by for some announcements coming up in the next couple of months. There are big developments in the pipeline that will blow you away. And there will be more opportunities to get involved and show your creativity. In the meantime, once again, thank you to everyone. We’ll see you soon.

Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain.

Skins is far better than any American show about the lives of teenagers. However in seasons 2 & 3, I think writers have strayed too far into the melodramatic. If every episode contained the humor, excitement, fun and realism of the early subplot involving Madison Twatter and the lost dope, the series would be a lot more entertaining. I know you’re trying to be real, but real teenagers don’t go through as many traumatic events as often as the Skins gang does (dying parents, dying friends, hunted by hillbillies, hit by buses, threatened with death by gangsters, etc.). Every other show about adolescence is filled with implausible lifestyles and implausible events. Skins was refreshing because it was about realistic middle class kids doing the things they actually do. I would rate the show in Season I as a comedy with dramatic elements, but Season II & III as drama with comedic part. Please return to comedy-centered writing.

You know Skins season 3 have lots of fans in china. I agree with creeters that creating the show takes so long. What shall we do during this period? Just waiting….the characters are so great. Love cook, emily, naomi.

I agree with Bob up there. I love Skins, it is my favourite tv programme by far, as well as being the most realistic portrayal of teens there is. However, I do think that they have strayed slightly from reality on series 2+3.

I can honestly say that watching Series 1, I’ll think to myself, I can’t believe how realistic this is. Every single conversation they have in that series sounds like a conversation me and my friends could be having. Most of the things that happen to them are things that have happened to me and my friends.

And although 2+3 are still pretty realistic, there is not as much realism there.

I hope that in Series 4 there is a bit more (although I highly doubt it). Other things I hope for in Series 4 are a little more depth to Katie’s character, a lot more Thomas, a bit more Cook (ok so I know there’s already a lot, but he’s my favourite (: ).

Great job though! Skins is amazing (:

Speaking for the teens of Australia, I just want to say that Skins is friggin’ awesome.
Everyone I know just loves it, but I can’t say they completely share my view about series three.
They miss the old ‘crew’ but personally I couln’t care less. They’ve told their stories, now it’s other’s turns. Just think about how thrilled you would be if you got offered a part in a new series, and taking this into consideration, the new actors did an especially good job in portraying their characters.
You can’t get much more real than Skins. It’s entertainment you can identify with, even in a small way.
It doesn’t censor when it comes to things like sex, drugs and booze, and it highlights the some of the beautiful things (and pure silly things) life, and adolescence has to offer.
Who hasn’t woken up after sleeping on their friend’s bedroom floor, who hasn’t cried in the shower, who hasn’t loved someone they don’t think they can have?
These things might seem cliche, but they make Skins real.
The proof is in the popularity.
Keep up the great work, and I’m waiting for the day that I can return from a shit day at school, or a shit day in general, watch some new Skins, and realise that I’m not the only one.
