E4 Prize Winner
Multimedia Foundation Degree student, Sarah Ingram, recently won third prize in a national competition for E4. The television channel encouraged viewers to become involved with their new programme Skins by creating short films around the characters.
“I picked Cassie because she was the most interesting character on paper (and the most ridiculous),” said Sarah.
“We were provided with a quick brief on each of the characters; Cassie’s character was basically troubled, with an eating disorder. I thought the actress was very interesting-looking and pretty as well, so I did some sketches on paper and then drew them very quickly in Adobe Illustrator.”
“I saw Cassie as being manic depressive, so the dream-sequence at the beginning of my film was a way of showing her feeling deliriously happy and manic at one end of the scale, juxtaposed with the reality of when she wakes up.”
Sarah’s film has been featured on E4’s website since she won the prize. She also won tickets to the premier of Skins in London along with travel and hotel accommodation. She also attended the after show party and received an E4 goodie bag.
Multimedia students are actively encouraged to seek out national and regional competitions to widen their portfolios and experience. “I only found out about the competition the day before the deadline,” said Sarah. “First prize was a work placement with Channel 4… Next time!”
Anyone else think she captures Cass perfectly??
